THIS Literary Magazine Poet Spotlight

The Poet Spotlight is an opportunity for poets to have their work published as a featured poet in THIS. The selected poet has an opportunity to publish an artist's statement and/or to participate in an interview to accompany the selected works. Our goal with the spotlight is to bring both poetry and truly talented poets to the forefront more frequently.

Poets are eligible for consideration if they have not published more than one book of poetry (including chapbooks and self-published collections). We especially encourage unpublished poets to submit.

At present, we anticipate a Poet Spotlight would appear annually in two different issues of the magazine. Our first spotlight debuted in the September/October 2010 issue and featured the work of Hong Kong-based poet Nicholas Y.B. Wong. Our second spotlight featured C.M. Donahue.

To apply for the Poet Spotlight, interested poets should:

  • Submit 8-16 poems via our online submissions manager.

  • Include a bio.

  • Tell us where you heard of THIS and the Poet Spotlight.

  • Tell us about some of your favorite poets and/or poems.

  • If you have published a book-length collection of poems, please tell us. Provide the publisher's name, the publication date, and the ISBN number, as applicable.

Additionally, only TWO of the poems submitted for the Poet Spotlight can be previously published. We do not accept simultaneous submissions for the spotlight. All poets submitting work will be given careful reading by a review committee. If not accepted for the Poet Spotlight, submissions will be considered for regular publication in the magazine.

The deadline is December 15 for poets who wish to submit their work. Publication will occur in the March/April 2012 issue of the magazine.
